Tancrede Auguste

My paternal grandmother's father was General of the Armed Forces up to 1912 when he was asked by the Army to rule the nation (August 8th, 1912 to May 3rd 1913), as a result of the assassination of President Leconte – “Jean-Jacques Dessalines Michel Cincinnatus Leconte” when the national palace was blown up with Leconte and his entourage trapped inside. ****Kalfou/Legba – always opened the doors for Grand-Papa – all the farmers, his family included called him like that! Ezili Dantò(the Black Mother, partner, militant revolutionary Loa/Spirit/Divinity from the Vodou Ancestral Religion guided Grand-papa, and lastly but as important: Aizan Velekete (the oldest of the Afrikan Loas/Spirit/Divinities) representing purity, goodness, wiseness, pure unconditional love, initiation and national reconciliation – This Loa was the main Loa guiding Jean Antoine Tancrède Auguste. This is our tradition! This is our heritage! This is my claim to beautiful culture and national heritage!**** explanation of the Loas/Spirits/Divinities present in this China ink drawing by: yours truly, Danièle Mangonès/Vanyan Nègès

Leukemia took one of Haiti’s finest sons (a patriot and a militant!) In his short and amazing life, Jean Antoine Tancrède Auguste held the following prestigious positions: Chief of the Secret Police, General of the Haitian Army, an amazing progressive industrialist with a Grand vision for Haiti and a passion for his fellow man. It is under his leadership that the national palace begun to be reconstructed and was finish during the American Occupation <1915-1934>, sugar factories were built everywhere and exported throughout. Exports boomed under his short administration (cacao, cotton, coffee, sugar) Europe, the American continent! Tancrède was a farmer in his heart; therefore, he could motivate the farmers to plant, produce and enjoy the fruit of their labor!
